This course is for anyone who wants to learn more about safe ski touring. It provides a solid introduction to avalanche safety and awareness.
This course covers essential skills:
- Using an avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe.
- Basic knowledge of snow and avalanches.
- Terrain awareness and navigation.
- What should you bring on a ski tour?
The aim is that, after completing the course, you will be able to plan your own trips in simple terrain and understand what constitutes avalanche terrain and how to avoid it. You will also learn how to use an avalanche transceiver and rescue equipment.
Out on the Skis
We start both days with a one-hour theory session indoors.
The rest of the day is spent out in the mountains, where we explore varied terrain. We practise and discuss different route choices, assess the snow and learn how to use safety equipment.
The aim of the course is to enable you to recognise avalanche terrain and make safe decisions in the winter mountains.
Welcome!
