Ski and Avalanche Academy – Two-Week Ski Touring Course

This course is for ambitious skiers. Perhaps you are considering becoming an avalanche instructor, ski guide or Mountain Guide in the future?

This course is for those with ambitions. Would you like to learn more about the combination of avalanche knowledge, rope techniques, snow climbing techniques, skiing technique and ice climbing? Then this course is for you. We want to give you greater insight and a deeper understanding of travelling safely in the winter mountains. The course focuses on helping you make good decisions and ensuring that you are well prepared to make your own decisions in winter terrain.

To participate in this course, you must have experience with ski touring and a basic understanding of avalanche safety.

The course runs over two weeks, with 5 days of training + 2 rest days + 5 days of training. Accommodation in the dorm at Trevarefabrikken is available at an additional cost (750 NOK per night, including a hotel breakfast).

The course takes place in the mountains around Henningsvær.

Course Content

5-day Advanced Avalanche Course
Use of crampons and ice axe
Snow climbing techniques
Introduction to ice climbing
Skiing technique
Rope techniques in winter terrain / snow anchors
Safety and first aid in the winter mountains
Course instructors are Mountain Guides or currently training to become Mountain Guides.

I had no climbing experience at all, but Vegard was patient enough for us to take our time in the climb, ensured to tell us all about the safety and gave tips on how to climb the tough parts!
