Become a More Independent Mountain Climber

The Mountain Climbing Academy is an intensive two-week climbing course. For those who already have some climbing experience and want to take a major step towards becoming a more confident and independent mountain climber.

Throughout the course, you will develop the skills and experience needed to plan and carry out your own climbing adventures in the mountains. We work with trad climbing, natural protection, multi-pitch climbing, rope systems, rescue techniques and safe movement in alpine terrain.

But this course is about more than learning technical skills. We spend as much time as possible climbing classic routes in Lofoten. Giving you the opportunity to make your own decisions and apply what you learn in real mountain situations.

The goal is that after two weeks, you leave Lofoten as a safer, more experienced and more independent mountain climber – with a solid foundation for planning and completing your own climbing adventures.

What Will You Learn?

Over two weeks, we gradually build the skills you need to become a safer and more independent mountain climber. We combine instruction with plenty of practical climbing. Allowing you to apply the techniques in real situations on the rock and in the mountains.

During the course, we work with:

  • placing and evaluating natural protection
  • building anchors and efficient rope systems
  • leading on traditional protection
  • multi-pitch climbing
  • rappelling and safe descent from climbing routes
  • rescue techniques and problem-solving
  • route planning and evaluating conditions
  • efficient and safe movement in alpine terrain

As the course progresses, you will take more responsibility for planning and carrying out the climbs. Your guide and instructor gradually take more of a coaching role, giving you the opportunity to practise making your own decisions.

The goal is not simply to know the techniques, but to understand when and how to use them on your own climbing adventures.

Who Is the Mountain Climbing Academy For?

The Mountain Climbing Academy is for climbers who already have some basic experience and want to take the next step towards becoming more independent in the mountains.

You should have some experience with climbing and belaying, but you do not need extensive experience with trad climbing or long multi-pitch routes. The course progresses gradually, and the instruction is adapted to the experience and level of the group.

What matters most is that you are motivated to learn, want to develop your skills and are prepared for two intensive weeks with plenty of time spent climbing outdoors.

The course is especially suited to those who want to move from joining climbing trips to confidently planning and completing their own mountain climbing adventures.

Two Weeks of Climbing in Lofoten

Lofoten is an exceptional place to develop your skills as a mountain climber. Around Henningsvær and Kalle, we have access to everything from shorter trad routes to long multi-pitch climbs and alpine mountain terrain.

Throughout the two weeks, we choose different climbing areas and routes based on what we want to learn, the progression of the group and the conditions on the day. As your skills develop, the climbs gradually become more complex. You take more responsibility for the planning and decision-making.

We aim to spend as much of the course as possible outside, climbing on real routes. This is where techniques, good judgement and efficient routines develop into practical experience.

Lofoten becomes our classroom . And the goal is for you to leave with the skills and confidence to plan your own climbing adventures.

Experienced Instructors and Mountain Guides

At the Mountain Climbing Academy, you will learn from experienced instructors and guides with a strong background in climbing, teaching and moving safely through steep mountain terrain.

We focus on explaining why we do things – not just how. Throughout the course, you receive close guidance and practical feedback while gradually taking more responsibility as your skills develop.

Small groups allow us to adapt the instruction to each participant and focus on the areas that will help you progress the most.

Our goal is to create a safe and supportive learning environment where you can challenge yourself, gain real experience and develop as a mountain climber.

Highly recommended! Best guides in Lofoten for ski and climbing! I recently joined Klatreakademiet to develop my skills in traditional (TRAD) climbing and had an amazing experience. We climbed the front side of Svolværgeita, Gandalfveggen, and several other fantastic locations. The local guides are highly experienced and great at creating a fantastic learning environment. If you are planning to climb or ski in Lofoten, this is definitely the company to use. I highly recommend them! Thank’s to Vegard and Håvard

I did the Svolværgeita climb with Vegard, and he made it so seamless! I had no climbing experience at all, but Vegard was patient enough for us to take our time in the climb, ensured to tell us all about the safety and gave tips on how to climb the tough parts! I would definitely recommend them and would definitely come again for future climbs :)!
