NF Method Course – With Experienced Instructors

This course is the first step in the training to become a Climbing Instructor 1 for both lowland and high mountain climbing. The course provides a thorough introduction to methods for multi-pitch climbing on natural protection and partner rescue.

This course marks the first stage of our Climbing Instructor 1 training, covering both lowland and high mountain climbing. Before starting the course, you must already have a solid understanding of standard methods for climbing on natural protection and partner rescue. This allows us to focus the course on reviewing and discussing methods that are optimized for an instructional setting.

To participate in this course, you must meet the admission requirements established for sport climbing instructor courses (9.1.2), in addition to the following requirements:

At least 2 years of experience leading multi-pitch routes in a variety of climbing areas.
Demonstrated ability to lead grade 5 routes safely and systematically using natural protection, including at unfamiliar climbing areas.
Proficiency in standard partner rescue techniques.
Please note the following clarification:

The term “2 years of experience” refers to two years of active participation, during which you have completed at least 50 pitches per year using natural protection. You should also have substantial experience with multi-pitch routes. Your partner rescue skills must be documented through at least two days of partner rescue training or self-directed practice on natural protection within the past year, or equivalent experience.

How to Apply for the Method Course

Applications for the NF Climbing Method Course are submitted through brattkompetanse.no. You will need to submit an application form and a standardized climbing logbook. Detailed guidance is available from Brattkompetanse, with further information at fjellsportforum.no/instruktorer. To have your application approved, it is important that you meet all experience requirements and have the necessary documentation in place.

Our method course instructors are IFMGA/UIAGM Mountain Guides, mountain course leaders and high mountain climbing instructors. We work in the mountains year-round and have extensive experience running climbing courses. Welcome!

Vi var to personer som tok et kurs over tre dager med Vegard som instruktør. Kursdagene ble tilpasset vårt nivå og våre ambisjoner, og vi gikk fra aldri å ha satt naturlige sikringer før til å lede en fem taulengders trad-rute på egenhånd i løpet av tre dager. Vegard var meget god på å både vise og forklare, men også på å la oss prøve oss frem og finne løsninger selv uten å bryte inn mer enn nødvendig.

Vi var en vennegjeng som besøkte Henningsvær i forbindelse med et bryllup, og ønsket samtidig å få med oss en tur til Svolværgeita. Vi hadde sett mange bilder derfra på forhånd, og klatringen så både spektakulær og spennende ut.

I Fri Natur stilte med guider, og vi fikk en veldig god opplevelse fra start til slutt. Guidene var hyggelige, profesjonelle og flinke til å skape trygghet underveis. Ei i gruppen hadde gruet seg litt til klatringen, men guidene tok seg god tid, var tålmodige og fulgte henne opp på en veldig fin måte, samtidig som resten av gruppen ble godt ivaretatt.

Vi leide også sykler gjennom I Fri Natur mens vi bodde i Henningsvær. Vi bodde litt utenfor sentrumskjernen, så syklene gjorde det veldig enkelt å komme seg fram og tilbake og rundt ellers i Henningsvær. Det er ikke store avstander, men i løpet av en helg sparte vi både mye tid og en del gåing. Dette var absolutt et stort pluss for oss.

Turen opp Svolværgeita ble et av høydepunktene under oppholdet i Lofoten. Å stå på toppen var en fantastisk opplevelse, og noe vi kommer til å huske lenge.

Vi kan på det sterkeste anbefale både turen og I Fri Natur.

Guidene som tok oss opp og ned var svært profesjonelle og jeg følte meg ivaretatt hele veien. Jeg var ikke redd for å spørre eller be dem dobbeltsjekke meg x antall ganger.
