From the Sea to the Summit of Vågakallen
The North Ridge of Vågakallen is one of the great alpine mountain adventures in Lofoten. The journey starts close to sea level in Djupfjorden and follows the mountain all the way to the summit of Vågakallen. 943 metres above the sea.
This is a long and varied mountain day through some of the finest alpine terrain Lofoten has to offer. After the approach through Djupfjorden, around 14 pitches of climbing. Scrambling and exposed ridge terrain lead us towards the summit.
Climbing reaches around grade 4+, but much of the route consists of easier climbing and scrambling. It is the length, exposure and alpine character of the route that make the North Ridge such a memorable mountain journey.
As we move higher along the ridge, spectacular views open up across Djupfjorden, the sea and the surrounding mountains. The North Ridge all the way from the fjord to the summit. Makes this one of the most complete alpine experiences we offer in Lofoten.
Who Is the North Ridge For?
North Ridge of Vågakallen is suitable for experienced hikers with good fitness who are looking for a long and varied day in alpine terrain. You should be comfortable with heights and moving efficiently through steep and uneven mountain terrain.
You do not need extensive previous climbing experience. The most difficult climbing sections are around grade 4+, and your guide manages the rope and technical sections throughout the route. Some previous climbing experience is nevertheless an advantage.
Good endurance is important, as you should be prepared for a 6–10 hour mountain day involving hiking, climbing, scrambling and a long descent.
